Urban Paleo – the Lazy Cook’s New Best Friend

UrbanPaleo2
So it seems that quite a few of my uni mates are kicking goals in the health and fitness industry. First, I introduced you to Georgie Smith, creator of g.luxe muesli and all its tasty offshoots. Next there was Scottie Eastburn, who’s running 14 marathons in 2014 to raise money for the Australian Cancer Research Foundation.

And now I present Chris Ward – and his partner Fran Lamotte – who have created Urban Paleo, a pre-packaged Paleo meal business for those who want to eat well, but don’t have the time (or the knowledge) to cook themselves.

Performa Nutrition – Waterloo

Performa2.LGFAs a personal trainer, scoring an invite to the launch of a new gym/wholefoods store/insert-healthy-pursuit-here is probably a bit like a normal person getting invited to the opening of a new cocktail bar. Pretty darn exciting.

Eveleigh Farmers’ Markets – My Top 5 Stalls

I’m a bit of a sucker for an open air market… there’s something about them that just makes me happy. It doesn’t even really matter what type of market it is — from fashion to food and everything in between – there I’ll be, wandering around with a big goofy smile on my dial.

Of all the markets on my radar, Eveleigh Farmers’ Markets has to be my favourite. Held at the Carriageworks in Darlington every Saturday from 8am to 1pm, this place bursts with vibrancy, colour and activity. Not to mention the dogs (oh, the dogs) – this place is a canine-lover’s heaven!

Lazy Girl Eats – Sanduba

Attempting to find a place that serves a satisfying, nutritious lunch in the Sydney CBD is a bit like trying to find an Australian sports team that’s not losing to the Poms at the moment – they’re few and far between. So when I stumbled across Sanduba on George Street recently, I knew that the only fair thing to do was spread the word as far and wide as possible.

Lazy Girl Eats – g.luxe | gluten free muesli

We all know by now that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but for someone following a gluten-free diet it can also be the most dangerous. Most cereals are full of gluten, and let’s face it, not everyone has the time or inclination to cook protein for breakfast each day. So, what’s a (gluten-free) gal or guy to do?

Wholefoods House Woollahra

As you are no doubt aware by now, I’m not really into ‘skinny’ foods. I used to be – in high school and through my early 20’s I was all about light cheese, light coconut milk, fat-free yoghurt – and God help you if you put full cream milk in my coffee. Ironically, this was probably my most unhealthy and heaviest period (weight-wise) of my life.

Lazy Girl Eats – THR1VE

UPDATE: Since my original post, THR1VE has, well, thrived. With stores now in Sydney and Canberra plus 3-4 more due to open across the country in 2014, my prediction of world domination seems to be eerily correct. [Sidenote: I really should go into fortune telling]. The team is currently hard at work recipe testing (what a tough job) with a new menu launching early in the new year. If you haven’t been in to check them out yet, I suggesting getting on it, stat. Well,  read my blog post first, then…. stat.

When you lead a busy lifestyle, good nutrition is often the first thing to suffer. The irony of this, of course, is that good nutrition is what sustains you when you feel like you’re being pulled in all directions. Now, I don’t profess to eating well all of the time (My name is Jess and I’m a sugar-addict) but I am making a concerted effort to eat better, more often. Enter THR1VE in Sydney CBD’s MLC Centre.
