Do You Need a Personal Trainer?

Michael Cunico, National PT Manager FF exerciseA couple of weeks ago I spoke to Michael Cunico, National Personal Training Manager at Fitness First, to get a little insight into the most common mistakes he sees happening in the gym (you can check out the full post here). Today he’s back, and we’re talking personal trainers – how a good trainer can help combat these mistakes and what you should look for when you’re searching for a PT. [Read more…]

10-Minute Burpee Mash-Up

burpee mashup
My love of burpees is well documented. Some would go so far as to say that it’s borderline unhealthy, but I find it’s best not to listen to those people – #hatersgonnahate and all that. [Read more…]

Skipping + Bodyweight HIIT Workout

skipping.bwLast Saturday was a bit of a manic day for me. Priorities were pretty much: Lou-walk, spray tan, inordinate amount of washing, pedicure then mad dash to a wedding (spectacular wedding by the way, but that’s a story for another day). Anyway, I knew I wouldn’t have time for a proper workout, but I also knew that I really needed to do something. Situations like this are tough, and the easy way out is just to skip your workout altogether. But we all know that the easy way usually isn’t the best way, right? Right.

Tabata Tuesday – Kettlebell Style

tabatatuesdayjuly
You know what’s enough to turn even the most hardened among us into a quivering mess? Tabata. It’s bloody hard work – let’s just get that out of the road up front. It’s four minutes of what equates to pretty much hell on earth, but also kind of fun in a sucky way (if you’re a masochist) and seriously good for you, for a bunch of reasons I’ve outlined just here. 8-Minute HIIT Bodyweight Workout

Arctic conditions
So Team, apparently we’re having an arctic snap. I don’t really know what that means, but I’ve taken to wearing a singlet, a long sleeve top, a duck down vest, a duck down jacket and some gloves every time I leave the house, so to be honest we could be in the middle of an actual blizzard and I’m not sure I would notice.

the HELLO MONDAY workout

hello monday
Monday…. again. Now I don’t know what kind of evil sorcery is at work here, but I’m pretty sure Mondays are rolling around faster and faster every week. This week it could have something to do with the fact that I had my ma in town visiting. Our weekend was pretty jam-packed…. mainly filled with eating and drinking, but I did force her to work out with me both days so I’m not feeling too guilty. Or guilty at all if I’m completely honest with you.  [Read more…]

Lower Body Burner

Lower Body.bodyweight.FB

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again – there’s something very impressive about strong glutes and legs. Forget the thigh gap, because seriously what good does that actually do you in the real world? Wouldn’t you rather know that you can kick stuff? Run if you were being chased? Climb a 6-foot fence because you were locked out of your apartment? (yep, that happened this week). [Read more…]

The Filthy Fifty Workout (bodyweight)

filthyfifty.blog
Oh my god this cold weather is KILLING ME. Over the weekend I finally (begrudgingly) acknowledged the fact that summer is over with a little winter-centric shopping spree… given my wardrobe up until now has pretty much consisted of singlets and shorts this was not so much an indulgence as a necessity though, and I can now say with a little more confidence that I think I’ll survive ’til spring.
